Public holidays in Suriname are regulated by the country’s Holidays Act, established to guarantee annual paid holidays for all workers. According to the Act, all workers are entitled to 12 paid holidays after one year of continuous employment. Two additional days are awarded for the following three years of service.

Paid holidays are capped at an average of 18 days after the fourth year of employment. All employees are entitled to at receive an additional 50 percent premium above daily wages for work performed on a nationally recognized public holiday. Seasonal holidays may be observed by employers according to terms set forth in an employment contract or union bargaining agreement.
