Christmas is the busiest time of year for Saint Kitts and Nevis. The season combines Christmas cheer with a Carnival atmosphere and cultural exhibitions in a unique way.
Throughout the month of December, you will find concerts, street parties, backyard dances, Carnival competitions and events, and cultural heritage displays. Christmas Eve and Day are the climax of the celebrations but not at all an isolated holiday.
Food is of paramount importance in virtually all holiday celebrations in Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Christmas is certainly no exception. You can smell the aroma of rum cakes wafting from almost every home’s oven. Many indulge in sorrel, a delicious local spice drink. And there are feasts with ham, turkey, seafood, yams, black pudding, and more!
Additionally, many attend Christmas mass or church services, set up a nativity scene in their home, go Christmas caroling, and visit friends and relatives.
