In Puerto Rico, as in the US, the second Sunday of every May is Mother’s Day. That differs from some other Latin American countries, including Mexico, that observe Mother’s Day (Dia de la Madre) invariably on 10 May.

In close knit Puerto Rican families, Mother’s Day is a major holiday of the year. It’s a chance to tell your mother how much you love her with cards, gifts, kind words and special meals.
Many will take their mothers out to eat at a fancy restaurant, or there may be a Mother’s Day party where all the children can gather and spend a day with Mom.
Many in Puerto Rico will take to the beaches on Mother’s Day, or go shopping, or visit a park, nature reserve, or a major attraction. There’s no set standard on what to do or where to go, but showing one’s mother a fun, enjoyable day is in order.
