New Year’s Day 2024, 2025 and 2026 in Montserrat

Montserrat celebrates New Year’s Day with a public holiday every 1 January, as does most of the rest of the world. However, the celebrations really begin on New Year’s Eve and reach a high point with the turning of the clock from 11:59pm on 31 December to midnight on 1 January.

New Year’s Day is a time of resolutions and starting fresh for some, while for others it is spent recovering from a big, late night spent with friends and family.

As an overseas territory of the UK, Montserrat keeps to the same basic holidays as does the UK proper. This includes observing 1 January as New Year’s Day.

A large portion of the island of Montserrat is now an exclusion zone due to a series of volcanic eruptions in the 1990s. But there are still towns and tourist locales in the northern half of the island.

There, you will find fireworks displays, new year’s meals at hotels and restaurants, beaches bustling with celebrants, and other typical new year’s events. While the island is still recovering, its people are no less keen on welcoming the new year in a fun and festive way than anywhere else on the planet.
