Mother’s Day in El Salvador is celebrated each year on 10 May. In 1983, the Republic of El Salvador issued a legislative decree to create the holiday.

Employees in El Salvador are often given the day off before and after Mother’s Day in case they must travel to visit their mother. People travel long distances in order to be with their mother on Mother’s Day. If it is impossible to physically visit, children are expected to contact their mother by phone. Many send floral arrangements prior to the visit as well.

On this holiday, children take their mother out to lunch or prepare food at home and invite family to join them. Schools help children create artistic projects in honour of their mother to give as a gift. The main goal is to honour and revere the mother of the family.
