Although Labour Day is a public holiday in the Caribbean Netherlands, the fact is that not very much occurs on this day. It is very low-key and a time to relax. Many people have a special meal at home, and some use this time to get away on a mini-vacation.

There is an annual report and meeting of the Kralendijk on Labour Day. The Kralendijk is Bonaire’s “trade union union”. The stock market closes, people get off work and school, and there may be a few small Socialist meetings or parades.
