Bermuda celebrates National Heroes Day on the third Monday of every June. It is the capstone of National Heroes Weekend, which is a carnival-like festival that begins the Friday before National Heroes Day.
|2019||17 Jun||Mon||National Heroes Day|
|2020||15 Jun||Mon||National Heroes Day|
Originally, this holiday was held in October, when it was first instituted in 2008, but then it was moved to June. It had been expected that it would be moved to coincide with Queen’s Birthday on the second Monday of June, but instead, the third Monday was chosen.
On National Heroes Day, Bermuda honours those on its list of official national heroes. This list contains a diverse array of men and women who have contributed to their territory’s welfare in a variety of ways. It’s not only war heroes and political figures, but also others who exemplified courage and other positive character qualities that they used in their country’s best interests.
