Independence Day 2027 and 2028 in Haiti
Every 1 January is Independence Day in Haiti, for it was on 1 January 1804 that Haitian independence was declared from the French colonial empire.
In 2027, Independence Day falls on Friday 1 January. The holiday will be on Saturday 1 January in 2028.

The war for independence is certainly remembered at this time of year, along with the new era it started at the beginning of a new year. Many Haitians will keep this day by wearing new clothes, visiting friends and family, and exchanging gifts.
But they will also attend parades, like the one in Port-au-Prince, visit the National Palace, sing their national anthem and wave their country’s flag, watch fireworks displays or set off their own fireworks, and even dance for joy in the streets.
