Uruguay, like most other Roman Catholic and Latin American nations, has Epiphany on its public holidays’ calendar. The date is 6 January, 12 days after 25 December.
Epiphany, or “Epifania” in Spanish, is a very transitional day. It marks the end of the Christmas season and the beginning of the Carnival season in Uruguay. It is a time when people celebrate the arrival of the Three Kings who gave gifts to Jesus in Bethlehem. The baptism of Jesus as an adult is also commemorated on this day.
There are parades, dancing, lively music, family get-togethers, feasts, games, and more that take place on this holiday. It is much-anticipated in Uruguay, especially by the children.
