Ascension Day is a holiday in Curaçao to commemorate Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven as recorded in the Bible. It is observed on the fortieth day of Easter – 39 days after Easter Sunday – and always fall on a Thursday.
In 2027, Ascension Day falls on Thursday 6 May. The holiday will be on Thursday 25 May in 2028.

In Curaçao, most shops and eateries shut down on Ascension Day since it is a national holiday. Some businesses in touristy areas are more likely to stay open, however. Even banks, gas stations, and grocery stores typically close for the day or close early, but the casinos remain open.
Beaches are likely to be crowded on Ascension Thursday and on the following weekend. Expect cruise liners to bring fresh loads of tourists for the weekend. Locals like to get out of doors for Ascension Weekend, be that at the beach, in the city park, or in their own backyard.
