In Uruguay, Labour Day is a surprisingly major holiday. It virtually eclipses Easter, for example, in the fervour with which it is celebrated by the people. Many more people are off work and many more businesses close down for Labour Day versus on Easter as well.
You will find that public transportation and services are hard to come by on Labour Day in Uruguay. While the holiday is big, it is also more family-centred. People spend time at home, feasting with relatives and friends and catching up with each other.
