New Year’s Day 2027 and 2028 in Bermuda
Bermuda celebrates New Year’s Day with a public holiday every 1 January, as does most of the rest of the world. However, the celebrations really begin on New Year’s Eve and reach a high point with the turning of the clock from 11:59pm on 31 December to midnight on 1 January.
In 2027, New Year’s Day falls on Friday 1 January. The holiday will be on Saturday 1 January in 2028.

The whole period from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day is a kind of festive, end of year celebration in Bermuda. Public fireworks displays generally take place on the evening of New Year’s Eve, and many people set off their own firecrackers or fireworks as well. The main event, however, is the gathering at King’s Square in Saint George, where crowds watch the dropping of a giant onion precisely at midnight!
From Christmas time through New Year’s Day, common holiday foods consumed by Bermudans include egg nog, coffee, rum or mulled wine, black rum cake, lobsters, turkey, rum-glazed ham, papaya casserole, and cassava-chicken layered pie.
As Bermuda has more churches per capita than any other place on Earth, it is not surprising that some attend church on New Year’s Day.
